HARRISBURG – Sen. Dan Laughlin (R-49) today announced the City of Erie has been awarded a $25,000 Keystone Historic Preservation Grant through the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC).
The grant will support planning efforts to preserve and modernize the City of Erie’s Municipal Building while maintaining its historic character. According to PHMC, the project will fund the development of a plan to incorporate green and solar improvements on the building’s roof while protecting historically significant architectural features.
“Erie’s historic buildings are an important part of our community’s identity, and this funding will help ensure the Municipal Building remains both functional and historically preserved for future generations,” Laughlin said. “I’m pleased to see state resources supporting projects that strengthen our communities while respecting their history.”
The Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program is funded through the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund and supports projects that identify, preserve, promote and protect Pennsylvania’s historic and archaeological resources. Since its creation in 1993, the program has awarded more than $54 million to over 1,100 preservation projects across the Commonwealth.
The City of Erie was among 38 projects selected statewide to receive funding through the 2025-26 grant cycle.
