ERIE — Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49) today announced that the Erie City Water Authority has been awarded grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Program. The Authority will receive $22,500 to use towards the purchase of three electric passenger vehicles for its Engineering Services Department, along with $11,037 to install three Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations for its fleet.
“This grant will help the Erie City Water Authority modernize its fleet and reduce operating costs while improving service efficiency,” said Sen. Laughlin. “Investing in updated vehicles and infrastructure is a smart move for Erie’s public services and long-term savings.”
The DEP’s AFIG program supports projects that promote alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. Its goals are to improve air quality, reduce reliance on imported oil, and encourage investments that strengthen Pennsylvania’s economy and environment.
The Erie City Water Authority’s new electric vehicles will be used for service visits by its Engineering Services Department, while the Level 2 chargers will support the Authority’s growing electric fleet. A full announcement of all statewide grant recipients is expected from DEP shortly.
Sen. Laughlin thanked DEP and the Authority for their ongoing commitment to innovation and efficient public service in Erie County.
