Grant Supports Internships for Local Youth

A $90,189 grant awarded by the state Department of Labor and Industry will support summer internships in the local area, according to Senator Dan Laughlin.

The State/Local Internship Program grant to the Northwest Workforce Development Board will support internships for an eight-week period between May 1 and August 28, 2020. The program will offer wages at a minimum of $10.35 an hour for young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 years.

“This grant supports our ongoing efforts to promote job training and economic development in our region,” Senator Laughlin said. “This will help ensure that our young people receive the hands-on experience they need to compete and be productive in the 21st Century global marketplace.”

The local grant was part of more than $4.7 million in State/Local Internship Program grants that will provide nearly 1,500 summer internships across Pennsylvania.
