Erie County Park, Recreation Projects Receive $1 million in State Grants

Several groups and municipalities within Erie County were recently selected to receive $1,037,600 in Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The CCPP provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, land trusts, river and trail organizations and other non-profit organizations for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway areas.

Erie County will receive $75,000 to prepare a comprehensive county-wide recreation, park, greenway and sustainable transportation plan.

Erie Zoological Society will receive $350,000 for the rehabilitation of its lion exhibit.

Girard Township will receive $226,400 for the rehabilitation of Lake Erie Community Park, including construction of a pavilion/comfort station, installation of utilities, ADA access, landscaping and other improvements.

Greenfield Township will receive $86,700 for rehabilitation of Greenfield Community Park, including construction of a parking area and pedestrian walkway, installation of play equipment with a safety surface, ADA access, landscaping and other improvements.

Harborcreek Township will receive $113,000 for rehabilitation of Shorewood Park, including construction of pedestrian pathways, rehabilitation of parking areas, stormwater management measure, installation of a riparian forest buffer, ADA access, landscaping and other improvements.

Penn State University will receive $186,500 for development of the Wintergreen Gorge Trail in Harborcreek Township, including construction of a 1-mile trail from Cooper Road to the Penn State Erie Campus and trailhead.
